Once the Beyonce tour had concluded, the trio parted ways to return to their respective hometowns. The collaboration did not end however, as The Mamas were able to continue singing together. Spread across the US, The Mamas each recorded their parts to Diana Ross' "Love Hangover", a song they often perform together as an interlude during Beyonce's set, using <a href="http://www.audiopronews.com/?s=apogee&search.x=0&search.y=0" target="_blank">Apogee</a> MiC, a Mac and GarageBand to create one great sounding track.<br />

On 22 March, the curtain went up for the 21st time on Germany’s ECHO Awards, televised live by public broadcaster ARD from the Messe Berlin exhibition centre. The awards show had an impressive opening, with a powerful medley by the nominees for the best radio hit and a marching band on three stages. Sennheiser microphones and monitoring systems played a key role in the show’s success. All wireless monitoring systems were provided by <a href="http://www.audiopronews.com/audio-technology/sennheiser/" target="_blank">Sennheiser</a>, with wireless Sennheiser microphones also being used by the majority of the live acts, by all of the award presenters and by the two show presenters Ina Müller and Barbara Schöneberger.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>A glittering array of stars from German and international show business
accepted the invitation from the Deutsche Phono-Akademie to come to
Berlin for the award ceremony. The academy chooses the ECHO winners on
the basis of the sales figures and downloads achieved by the musicians –
thus representing a good cross-section of the entire (music-loving)
population, reflected by categories as diverse as German folk music and
“Club/Dance”. <br />
<br />
This ‘family gathering’ of the stars was marked by several shared
performances, including a “Valerie” medley in honour of the late Amy
Winehouse or a performance by the three dancefloor stars Oly Murs, Taio
Cruz and Sean Paul, who combined their hits “Heart Skips a Beat”,
“Troublemaker” and “She Doesn’t Mind” to form a joint act. Successful
teamwork was also a feature of Sennheiser’s microphone and monitoring
technology, with the company EBS-lights Veranstaltungstechnik providing
equipment from its own inventory, complemented by systems from MM
Communications, Sennheiser Global Relations and Sennheiser Vertrieb und
Service (SVS). “We have been working closely with the ECHO Awards
production team for almost ten years now and are very pleased that such a
good partnership has developed,” explained Thomas Holz, responsible for
Artists and Engineers at SVS. <br />
<br />
It is also a partnership that the engineers greatly appreciate. As Dirk
Pinger, Head of Sound for ECHO and monitoring engineer, pointed out:
“When the going gets tough, the support team is there to assist us.
That’s a huge benefit at such a major event.” Tobias Kühnel from
Showplan, the production manager for the ECHO Awards, added: “We were
glad that Sennheiser was there to support us once again this year. At
events like this, very good preparation and professional equipment are
absolutely essential.”<br />
<br />
Frequency planning was in the safe hands of RF Manager Svenja Dunkel,
who was forced to significantly extend her preparation time due to the
complexity of the current frequency situation in Germany. “The many
medleys presented us with an incredible challenge in dealing with all
the microphones and in-ear systems. The bands, show presenters and award
presenters used a total of 65 microphones and 26 in-ear channels with
80 beltpacks. Added to this, we needed further frequencies for
television, radio and the red carpet as well as the production radio
system and the security teams’ walkie-talkies, which meant that, in the
end, we had to provide just under 190 compatible frequencies.” <br />
<br />
This involved coordinating with potential frequency users and
ordering the equipment with the suitable frequencies in good time –
eight weeks before the show. “The really intensive phase then begins two
or three weeks before we are able to work at the venue itself,”
explained Svenja Dunkel. “This is followed by a week of setting up the
equipment, then the rehearsals and finally the show. It’s still possible
to make minor frequency adjustments before the rehearsals begin, but
the general frequency framework has to be in place – and it’s essential
that we avoid any kind of interference from outside.” The RF expert was
able to rely on her experience with events of this magnitude and the
fact that she knew most of the artists and bands personally. “The
successful finale was the result of fully functioning communication
encompassing every area, very good cooperation with the Federal Network
Agency and the fantastic support provided by Sennheiser, with its
special material and its intuitive understanding.”<br />
<br />
The live acts performing with Sennheiser microphones included Katy Perry with her special crystal version of the <nobr><a href="http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser/home_en.nsf/root/professional_wireless-microphone-systems_handheld-transmitter_3000-5000-series_main_500434" target="_self">SKM 5200</a></nobr>,
who presented her new single “Part of Me” for the first time on German
television, and Lana Del Rey, who performed “Video Games” with an <nobr>SKM 5200</nobr> with <nobr>KK 105-S</nobr>
capsule. The band Die Toten Hosen were there with their new single
“Tage wie diese” (Days Like These) and, like Jan Delay, used <nobr><a href="http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser/home_en.nsf/root/professional_2000-series_021735" target="_self">SKM 2000s</a></nobr> with <nobr>MMD 935-1</nobr> capsules. Tim Bendzko and Shaggy performed “Nur noch kurz die Welt retten“ (Just Gotta Save the World) with their <nobr>SKM 5200</nobr>/<nobr>MD 5325</nobr>; Roman Lob, Germany’s “Star for Baku”, sang “Standing Still”, and rock band Kraftklub used <nobr>SKM 2000s</nobr> with <nobr>MMD 935-1</nobr> capsules. <br />
<br />
The laudatory speech for the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement
Award to Wolfgang Niedecken was held by Campino from Die Toten Hosen
using two <nobr><a href="http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser/home_en.nsf/root/professional_wired-microphones_installed-sound_005065" target="_self">ME 36</a></nobr>.
Other awards presenters included Mando Diao, Barry Manilow, Lena and
Marilyn Manson, who also sang “The Beautiful People” together with
Rammstein. <br />
<br />
Following her Grammy and BRIT Award for her Album “21”, Sennheiser
user Adele also took the ECHO for Album of the Year and was also named
best Female Artist Rock/Pop International. Rammstein was also honoured
with two ECHOs, for Band Rock/Alternative National and Most Successful
National Act Foreign Countries. Best Live Act was Sennheiser user
Herbert Grönemeyer. Ina Müller took the ECHO for Rock/Pop National,
while Rosenstolz won the Band Rock/Pop National category. Sennheiser
user Helene Fischer was named best German Language Female Artist, with
Tim Bendzko winning the Newcomer National award. The ECHO Award for
Social Commitment 2012 went to Unheilig.<br />
<br />
Pierre Morant, Global Relations Manager EMEA at Sennheiser: “It was a
great honour for us to be present at the ECHO Music Awards. It was an
extremely successful show, which was the result of thorough preparation,
meticulous attention to detail and the wide experience of all those
involved.”<br />

not only with their top-quality sound but also with their elegant
design. High-grade metal and a finely crafted finish provide these
high-end earphones with a touch of class.</b><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser/globals.nsf/resources/CX-980.jpg/$File/CX-980.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser/globals.nsf/resources/CX-980.jpg/$File/CX-980.jpg" /></a></div>
“Electronic devices for mobile applications have to meet increasingly
demanding requirements – and that also applies to headphones. They are
expected to provide top-quality sound on the move and at the same time
have an excellent finish quality," explained Ivan Kuan, head of Product
Lifecycle Management at Sennheiser Consumer Electronics.<br />
<br />
“The <nobr><a href="http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser/home_en.nsf/root/private_headphones_expression-line_502868" target="_self">CX 980</a></nobr>
combines these demands in an excellent manner." Dynamic loudspeaker
systems with powerful Neodymium magnets guarantee a lifelike sound image
with a highly detailed resolution in a frequency response from 16 to
24,000 Hz. The ear adapters made of soft silicone or foam fit
comfortably in the ear canal to offer effective attenuation of external
noise. The large selection of seven adapters not only allows the
earphones to be adapted perfectly to every ear size, it also enables
users to change the sound image according to their preferences –
depending on whether they prefer a bass-focused, bass-intensive or fully
balanced sound.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><b>Elegantly practical</b><br />
<b><br /></b>Great attention has also been
paid to the small extras of the new earphones. In all three models, the
volume can be adjusted easily and conveniently by a volume control
integrated into the cable. A small but particularly useful innovation is
the variable jack plug. It can be fitted either straight or at a
90-degree angle to ensure optimum connection of the headphones to an
audio source. A metal clip with a matching design allows the headphones
to be attached to the user’s clothing. Useful travelling accessories
such as an aircraft adapter and an elegant carrying pouch put the
finishing touches to these highly attractive earphones.<br />

<a href="http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser/globals.nsf/resources/HDVD-800_leftside_.jpg/$File/HDVD-800_leftside_.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser/globals.nsf/resources/HDVD-800_leftside_.jpg/$File/HDVD-800_leftside_.jpg" /></a></div>
Building a hi-fi device that sounds so brilliant, so crystal clear and
so free of distortion as if one were sitting right in front of the audio
source. Creating a level of acoustics that surpasses everything that
has gone before. These are the visions that drive Sennheiser in the
development of its high-end products. For the first time, Sennheiser is
now launching an amplifier for dynamic headphones, thus making the
Sennheiser sound experience perfect. The digital HDVD 800 has a fully
symmetrical layout and sampling frequencies of up to 24bit/192kHz to
ensure an unequalled listening experience. It also harmonises perfectly
with Sennheiser's HD 800, HD 700, HD 650 and HD 600 high-end headphones.<br />
<br />
The outstanding features of the HDVD 800 include its balanced sound
image, maximum precision and impressive spatiality. The high-end
headphone amplifier has a fully symmetrical layout for operation with
analogue audio sources, thus ensuring absolutely symmetrical signal
transmission from the source to the headphones. For use with digital
sources, the amplifier is equipped with a high-quality Burr-Brown
digital/analogue converter that converts digital audio data into
analogue signals with a resolution of 24 bits and a sampling rate of up
to 192 kHz. This enables the HDVD 800 to transmit the entire frequency
spectrum of high-end audio sources without any loss of frequencies.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>“The search for perfect sound is a constant motivation for us to
develop new ideas,” said Maurice Quarré, Director Product Lifecycle
Management Sennheiser Consumer Electronics. “The best example is the
legendary Orpheus. These electrostatic headphones with a vacuum tube
amplifier, which came onto the market around 20 years ago, have become
an icon in the audio world. With the HDVD 800, Sennheiser is now taking
up the tradition of the Orpheus, providing music lovers with the perfect
combination of Sennheiser headphones and a specially matched
amplifier.”<br />
<br />
<b>Top-quality technology, top-quality sound</b><br />
<b><br /></b>Signal
processing in the HDVD 800 is fully symmetrical. That means that not
only the signal input into the amplifier is symmetrical but also the
signal output and therefore the connection to the headphones. “The fully
symmetrical principle effectively compensates for interference and
distortion. The sound therefore becomes much clearer as total harmonic
distortion is minimised," explained Axel Grell, Sennheiser’s Senior
Acoustical Engineer. Sennheiser supplies specially made cables for the
symmetrical connection to headphones. The headphones can, however, also
be connected using a normal 6.3 mm jack plug. In addition to the
symmetrical inputs, the HDVD 800 also has an asymmetrical input socket;
incoming signals are symmetrised before further processing takes place.
Digital sources are connected to the rear of the unit as an AES/EBU
input, S/PDIF (optical and coaxial) or USB. The USB 2.0 audio standard
offers 24 bit data transmission at 192 KHz.*<br />
<br />
In order to fully exploit the sound potential of the HDVD 800 with
any audio source, a rotary gain switch at the rear of the unit provides
simple adaptation of the amplifier output to the audio input voltage.
This ensures that the dynamic range can be used to its full extent.<br />
<br />
<b>High quality in every detail</b><br />
<b><br /></b>A glass panel
embedded in the aluminium housing of the amplifier gives a clear view of
the top-quality interior of the HDVD 800. Selected components and
sophisticated circuitry promise the ultimate in listening pleasure. The
rotary potentiometer is mechanically connected to the volume control by a
150mm long shaft. This unusually long potentiometer shaft allows the
signal path between the audio source and the potentiometer to be kept
very short, thus preventing possible interference of the signal.
High-quality components (Alps RK 27 quad) ensure that the volume is
controlled with maximum precision and a fine rotary ‘feel’. Also visible
through the glass panel are the cooling element, the audio relay and
countless MELF resistors for the amplifier. “The material selection has
been thought through down to the finest detail in order to fully exploit
the amplifier’s sound potential. The audio aspects of each individual
component were evaluated in listening tests before the optimum
combination was finally chosen,” said Maurice Quarré.<br />
<br />
And such meticulous attention has also been applied to the exterior.
Both the housing and the potentiometer control as well as the rotary
switch for selecting the source are made of anodised aluminium, while
the front panel of the housing and the controls are milled from solid
material. The HDVD was developed and designed in Germany, and the latest
member of Sennheiser’s high-end series is also being manufactured
there.<br />
<br />
The new digital HDVD 800 will be delivered to Sennheiser’s worldwide sales partners from September.<br />
<br />
<span class="smalltext">The Sennheiser Group, with its headquarters
in Wedemark near Hanover, Germany, is one of the world’s leading
